“Edible Backyards” - Camden Garden Club Winter Horticulture Series 2019

February 5, 2019

Speaker: Aaron Parker, Edgewood Nursery

“Edible Backyards” was the topic of the presentation of the Camden Garden Club’s 2019 Winter Horticulture Series in the Picker Room, Camden Public Library on Tuesday, February 5 at 10:00 a.m.

Did you know that the young shoots of hosta lilies can be prepared and eaten like asparagus? Aaron Parker discussed how to can turn your own property into an edible oasis. This class introduced a variety of edible perennial plants suited to Maine’s climate, where to obtain them, tips and techniques for planting and maintaining them, and ideas about how to use them in the kitchen. Aaron operates Edgewood Nursery in Falmouth, Maine, which specializes in unusual edible plants. He has given talks and classes throughout Maine on edible landscaping, seed saving, perennial vegetables, and low-maintenance, low-input gardening.
