The Camden Garden Club will host a free public Zoom presentation on Tuesday, February 28th from 10AM to 11AM on the topic of The New Invasive Plants List in Maine. Learn about the new Maine do-not sell list and explain why plants some people like were put on it, the reasons for the list, and some plants you could use instead.

Speaker Tom Atwell has written the Maine Gardener column for the Maine Sunday Telegram since March 2004. He worked for the Telegram and its sister papers (Press Herald, Evening Express) full-time since early 1974, working at different times as a reporter, copy editor, layout editor, assistant city editor, special sections editor, also writing columns about gardening and beer (for five years) as a sideline. He retired from the full-time job in 2011, but continues the gardening column as a freelancer.

Atwell was born in Skowhegan, grew up mostly in Farmington and attended the University of Maine where he received a degree in journalism. After graduation he was drafted into the Army, where he served two years, mostly as a reporter/editor for military publications.

This program is the last in the Club’s 55th Winter Horticulture Series in partnership with the Camden Public Library.

Since 1969, the Camden Garden Club has provided the Winter Horticulture Series of public talks to Camden area residents as a community service in Maine’s coldest months.
