This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Camden Garden Club providing decorated wreaths to adorn downtown Camden during the holidays. Since the 1950s, the Club has provided holiday decorations for the town, starting the tradition of fresh balsam wreaths, velvet bows, and lights in 1971. Now, for the 50th year in a row, the wreaths will be assembled and the bows crafted for another holiday season to enjoy.
The Club’s Wreaths Committee purchases the supplies for the annual wreaths using funds raised from the annual Garden Tour. In early November, members will assemble to handcraft 98 bows and affix them to fragrant looped boughs along with strings of electric lights. The efforts span two days and constitute dozens of volunteer hours. The finished wreaths will then be hung by the town of Camden on the lampposts downtown.
The wreaths take the place of the flower baskets supplied by the Club that adorn the lampposts in downtown Camden throughout the rest of the year and will go up before Thanksgiving and last through the end of the year.
Please consider supporting our work by making a donation so that we may continue our mission to cultivate the art of gardening to its fullest sense, develop and preserve beauty in and around Camden, and promote civic improvements, education, and conservation of natural resources.
